Hello.....on this page I will be listing some tips and ideas for making, aging, cutting, etc. Hopefully hints for things that will help you with your projects. So check back soon as I still have to get them typed up! Thanks again!
Anyone have any ideas that they would like to share or pass along? Email them to me using the "contact me" link and I would be glad to add them!
Got hot glue on your needle? Rub the needle with a dryer sheet and it will come off.
Scissors? I highly recommend using fiskars. They are all that I use, easy to handle, and very easy on the wrists.
How to dry your prims I use my oven set at 180 - 210 degrees. Place on old cookie sheet (one you’ll use just for baking primitives). This prevents rack marks from oven. Be sure to WATCH closely in the oven so it doesn’t burn. Check about every 5 minutes.
Tracing on black fabric Can't see your trace lines?. The easiest way is to pin the actual pattern piece to the fabric and sew around it. Or you can use white chalk.
In a bit of a hurry? Refold your fabric right sides together, then it's already matched up and ready to sew once cut!
Painting? Still have paint in your pallette, but need to run an errand or two, slip the pallette inside a gallon-sized freezer bag and close by tying or with a clothes pin. It will still be perfectly wet and ready to use when you come back later
When working with yarn or crochet thread, put it into a clean zip lock bag. Cut a tiny hole, about twice the thickness of the thread itself, into the white label area of the zippie. Seal the top, with the yarn/thread inside, and about 6 or 8" of the thread pulled thru the hole. Now, it can lay on the floor and remain clean, while you pull off as much thread as you need, for projects of all kinds!
Stuffing a round head or item? When stuffing something round that is hard to maintain the shape, spray the piece with a water bottle first and then stuff. The wet fabric helps to maintain the shape.
Buttons? Can't find the right color button for your project? White or light colored buttons can be dyed using RIt dye.
Tangled sewing thread? An easy solution for keeping your spools of sewing thread from tangling or having to chase an errant spool across your desk top is to put them in a clear container and drill asmall hole in the top. Leave a small amount of thread hanging out to tell what color it is and for ease in grabbing.
